Ever try stone or wood carving?  This course is your chance!

The wood is basswood (the type of wood used in carving carousels, gnomes, critters…).  The stone is soapstone, slate, limestone, marble.

Tools will be provided for both medium – mostly handtools, with some power tools.  If you have a favorite tool of your own, bring it along

We will make beautiful art, one chip or handful of dust at time.

The course includes an introduction to the tools (including tool selection, purchasing considerations for home, and sharpening), materials, and proper safety procedures.  We’ll also talk about design, with attention to individual projects.  Then – lots and lots of carving and sculpting!  The instructor will be around for advice and help as needed.
