Our everyday lives involve small and large decisions regarding schooling, career, work, relationships, and life commitments. How do we make choices? Weigh competing values? Discern the right path to take?

This course will introduce a contemplative, creative approach to spiritual decision-making using tools that incorporate topography and layout, visualization, and imagination. Drawn from both Ignatian spirituality and PRH International School of Adult Development, these methods of discernment respect the experience and uniqueness of each person, helping them to make good decisions and to become discerning people. Participants will learn to clarify the various elements and important influences in making a decision, develop the capacity for stepping back from a situation with freedom and experience a greater sense of satisfaction and peace. A different spiritual theme and art medium will be presented each morning, including painting with color, drawing with ink, collage, found objects, and mandala.

What will class time be like?
Each morning will include a brief time for instruction, followed by an introduction to new methods and materials. Quiet, individual work time will allow students to practice methods and explore the situations and decisions in depth. The class time will close with an opportunity to share from the day’s work.

Will I need to work outside of class?
No, all projects can be completed within the allotted class time.

What can I expect to create?
The work and projects for this class will be process-oriented, not product -oriented. Any products generated throughout the class will be serving as part of the overall discernment method and process.

Do I need experience to take this class?
All experiences are welcome, including beginners.

What do I need to bring to class?
A particular decision or personal situation that requires the time and attention of an intentional process.
