Roopini Venkatasubramanian

Roopini Venkatasubramanian is an Indian interdisciplinary traditional artist. She
holds an MPhil in Theoretical Physics from the University of Madras, India, and an
MA in Traditional Arts from the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts,
London. Coming from the cultural city of Chennai, her practice is shaped by a deep
engagement with faith-based making and contemplative craft traditions. Her work
draws inspiration from Indian geometric patterns, traditional folk art motifs, and
Kolam floor diagrams.

Working across mediums such as ceramics, stained glass, and Indian miniature
painting, her practice explores repetition, geometry, methods and material discipline
as devotional and meditative processes. She believes that repeated practice and
detachment are core values in every act of creation. Constant remembrance of the
Divine through artistic practice is her pathway to seek guidance, surrender, and work
as an instrument of the Divine. Currently based in Seattle, WA, she works and shares
her practice through her platform, Abhyāsatā.
