Retreat Inquiry Form

At the Grunewald Guild, we recognize the value of stepping outside of our day-to-day routines and schedules. In doing so that we enter into the “thin space” of retreat. This space might offer us any number of things – contemplation, rest, creativity, challenge, communion, and renewal.

By “stepping outside” and into a space of retreat, we commit to a “practice of retreat.” This space is something sought, and the shape of each retreat practice is unique to the seeker’s intentions and needs. Some seeker’s desire quiet and rest, with minimal or no conversation. Some desire conversation around a boisterous meal table. Some enter into retreat with a desire for facilitated creative and spiritual practices. Some are completely self-led. Whether it is the practice of “community with oneself” or with others, there is no right or wrong way to practice retreat so long as the retreatant listens and responds to the needs of their heart.

As an expression of its missional exploration of creativity, art, spirituality, and community, the Grunewald Guild hosts retreats throughout the fall, winter and spring. The Guild has a variety of housing, meeting, and studio spaces available. We can also provide meal service, though that is not required (most of our housing spaces have kitchenettes or full kitchens). We can also help facilitate practices related to art, creativity, and spirituality.

We would love to hear from you and support your retreat! Please fill out this form with as much information as possible, and we will be in contact with you soon to discuss how the Grunewald Guild can best support your retreat experience.

Spirituality

The Guild community is a community of spirit. We place spirituality and faith at the center of our shared identity and practice. Our understanding of faith is expansive and ecumenical, and we believe that a diversity of spiritualities is critical for the Guild's flourishing. We share a community practice of gathering at least once per day to explore topics of the spirit. Usually in the evening, these are times that can feature song, silence, labyrinth walks, prayer, meditation, and conversation. It is an opportunity to ground ourselves as individuals-in-community, to participate in a shared spiritual life, and to explore spirituality from wherever our feet happen to be planted. We strive to support the spiritual needs of retreatants as they explore their relationship to faith and creativity while on retreat at the Guild. Please let us know if you seek resources such as spiritual companionship or direction, prayer and meditation resources, or anything else. Availability of various resources depends on the resources of the Guild community at any one time, and these resources change as our community changes. But we seek to support as best we can. All retreatants are invited to participate in our shared pattern of spiritual gathering. If interested, retreatants may also coordinate with staff to lead a gathering.

Creating

The Guild is a creating community. Art and creativity is at the core of our community identity, and we invite retreatants to explore their creativity with us as part of their retreat. Depending on staff capacity, we can facilitate, co-facilitate, or host art experiences or classes on a number of topics and in a number of formats. Cost is determined once details are confirmed. Please share your interests or goals with us and we can find ways to support you.
