This course is part of a long-weekend workshop, beginning on Thursday, April 16th and ending on Sunday, April 19th. Class sessions run Thursday evening 7 pm – 9 pm, Friday 9:30 am – 12:30 pm & 2 pm – 5 pm, Saturday 9:30 am – 12:30 pm & 2 pm – 5 pm with Open Studio Saturday 6pm – 9pm and additional programming Thursday and Sunday.

“Short and Sweet” is focused on introducing participants to short story writing. This class will be an open conversation to begin the story that is living rent free in your mind and finally get it on paper. The course objective is to remove your fear of writing. Writing doesn’t have to be for the world, but can be super beneficial to the individual. The goal is give you the tools and encouragement to continue to express yourself beyond the classroom.

What creative modalities are used in this course?

Writing exercises, sounding boards, rough drafts, craft conversation, feedback and sharing (optional).

What will class time be like?

Participants will participate in free writing time, complete outlines, and read short stories, then submit a rough draft of their short story for feedback.

Will I need to work outside of class?

Yes, you will be submitting a rough draft of your short story for feedback on the last day.

Do I need experience to take this class?

Beginners welcome, as are experienced folks.

What do I need to bring to class?

Writing materials will be provided, however you are encouraged to bring your favorite writing implement and paper if desired. If the ability to type on a device would be helpful to you in the process of writing and revising your short story we encourage you to bring a personal device. It is convenient to email or print writing to submit for feedback, however however written drafts are acceptable.
