Week 8 - Imaging and Transforming: 2D Design

With Adele Caemmerer

August 21 - 27, 2022

Date and Time Details: The week begins Sunday afternoon at 6:00 pm for dinner and runs through Saturday morning brunch at 10:30 am.

Location: Grünewald Guild

Address: 19003 River Road, Leavenworth, WA, USA

What will class time be like?: The course will use drawing as a springboard for exploring the process of abstracting a chosen subject. We will begin by orienting to desired subject matter using basic observational drawing methods. Students will meanwhile be introduced to the teachings of Nicholas Roukes who identified 23 common creative triggers seen in contemporary abstract art and design work. Students will riff off this idea, applying, fusing, and improvising creative triggers as they compose and complete their drawings.

Will I need to work outside of class?: No; however if you choose to work on more or more complex work, you are welcome to.

What can I expect to create?: Students will come away with drawing studies that culminate in a final drawing or series of drawings that incorporate the process of applying creative triggers

Do I need experience to take this class?: All experience levels welcome, including beginners.

What do I need to bring to class?: Comfortable clothes and shoes in case we go outside. Any personal favorite art materials, journals. Colored art materials for personal use, if desired

Explore abstraction through the process of applying “creative triggers” to re-think, re-work, and re-present a subject in fresh and unexpected ways. We will use drawings as our springboard into abstracted compositions. In addition to setting up our projects, and exploring the process of abstraction, attention will be given to alternative ways to develop into a final form.
