The Muse, Your Dues, and The Fuse: Songwriting

This program begins Sunday, June 16, and ends Saturday, June 22. The fees listed at right include lodging and all meals (except “Commuter”, which includes a Commuter Meal Plan). An additional sliding scale Course Fee is required. For more information on our pricing, see our Pricing page.
Sometimes we find our muse simply through the disciplined practice of art.
In other words, we fake it till we make it.
By paying our dues- practicing our skills, looking for the light in the work of others, using prompts, having conversations with other creatives, we find the threads we need to follow, to help us articulate our ideas.
These tried and true methods will be employed to help guide us to create a new song.
What you can expect to create: most students will complete 1 song, which they will share at the student concert on the last evening before leaving. Some may complete several songs, depending on the amount of time they put into their craft.

Jan Krist
Detroit-born Jan Krist was raised on the folk rock sensibilities of the 60’s and 70’s. Her work has been highly acclaimed in Billboard Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and Dirty Linen.
