This program is part of our Summer Program, beginning on Sunday (July 26) and ending on Saturday (August 1).  Class runs Monday morning through Friday morning, with additional programming on Sunday and Saturday.

Join Abigail for an expressive, hands-on exploration of collage and zine making through mixed media practices. Students will work with found images, personal ephemera, text, paint, mark-making, and layered materials to create visual stories that feel both intimate and expansive.

Participants will experiment with composition, repetition, fragmentation, and sequencing—learning how images and words can hold emotion, memory, humor, and contradiction. Emphasis will be placed on intuitive making, trusting the process, and allowing meaning to emerge through layering and play rather than perfection.

Students should expect to create several small- to medium-sized zines and/or one or more larger collage works, depending on individual interests and working style. The course supports both narrative and non-linear approaches, making space for personal voice, exploration, and experimentation.

This class is open to all experience levels and is ideal for artists, writers, and makers interested in storytelling, self-expression, and the tactile possibilities of mixed media.

What creative modalities are used in this course?

Book making, zine making, collage, mixed media.

What will class time be like?

Students should expect to create a few small to medium sized zines or some larger collages as they see fit.

Will I need to work outside of class?

Work time outside of class should not be necessary but is always encouraged for more developed work.

Do I need experience to take this class?

All levels and experience welcome.

What do I need to bring to class?

Students are encouraged to bring personal clippings for collages but it is not necessary to complete the class. For example while creating a zine or a personal booklet it might be nice to add a personal photo or some meaningful collage materials.
