This program is part of our Summer Program, beginning on Sunday (June 28) and ending on Friday (July 3).  Class runs Monday morning through Thursday morning, with additional programming on Sunday and Friday.

During this creative writing class students are invited to build the structural “bones” of a full-length novel or memoir through practical writing exercises, thoughtful discussions, and brief craft presentations. Under Larry Lehnerz’s experienced guidance, students will explore the essential elements of storytelling—story structure, vivid description, character development, setting as the soul of story, dialogue, and the art of adding humor and emotional depth.

Each class combines craft insights with hands-on practice, giving writers tools to strengthen their narrative voice and creative confidence. Emphasis will be on cultivating a safe, supportive space where participants can open to the writing process and allow imagination and spirit to flow freely onto the page.

Whether you’re beginning a new project or refreshing your approach to an existing one, this course supports you in shaping your story with intention, clarity, and artistry.

What kinds of things can you expect to create?

Participants can expect to produce 10-30 pages of new writing, dependent on their personal goals.

What will class time be like?

Class will include a mix of writing time, workshopping, and instructor mentorship.

Will I need to work outside of class?

Yes – there will be a lot of writing, so it will be natural for it to flow into non-class time depending on your goals.  There may also be some reading done outside of class.

Do I need experience to take this class?

This course welcomes all experience levels, including beginners.

What do I need to bring to class?

A notebook and writing, as well as a laptop for extended writing periods (unless you prefer handwriting).  Bring comfortable clothes and shoes for outdoor meditations, too.
