Summer Week 3 | Plants, Prints, and Place

This program is part of our Summer Program, beginning on Sunday (June 28) and ending on Friday (July 3). Class runs Monday morning through Thursday morning, with additional programming on Sunday and Friday.
Join ecologist turned artist Nicki Lang on a journey of exploration of the Guild plant communities using art! We will focus our practice on very basic drawing, gelli printing, block printing, and nature printing with found objects. We will also learn about traditional uses and the ecology of the plants growing all around us.
The course objective is to explore the plant ecology of the Guild by using plants as subjects for art. We will learn about plant communities that exist on the property and nearby land. We will use actual plants for printing and use plant shapes for inspiration.
What creative modalities are used in this course?
Drawing, Gelli Printing, Bock Printing, Nature Printing
What kinds of things can you expect to create?
Block prints, gelli prints, and nature prints. As many as you want!
What will class time be like?
Class will include time for instruction, playing with materials, and exploring the Guild’s campus for found objects.
Will I need to work outside of class?
No, though additional studio time is always available.
Do I need experience to take this class?
All experience levels, including beginners, are welcome!
What do I need to bring to class?
A personal sketchbook. Bring shoes and clothing you can wear while outdoors.
