This program is part of our Summer Program, beginning on Sunday (June 28) and ending on Friday (July 3).  Class runs Monday morning through Thursday morning, with additional programming on Sunday and Friday.

Spend a week in the Guild’s Stained Glass studio, learning about the art of stained glass and creating a piece for you to take home!

The project steps include:
• Drawing a pattern, copying it, and cutting out the stained-glass cardboard templates.
• Selecting and cutting the glass pieces using both straight edges and mild curves.
• Trimming the pieces to fit using grozing pliers and a grinder.
• Applying copper foil to the edges and fitting the pieces into a frame.
• Soldering the foil joints.
• Finishing the piece with a zinc cane frame.

The objective is to have fun, feel inspired, and delight in the play of colors and shapes inherent in stained glass projects.

What kinds of things can you expect to create?

One small practice piece and one larger panel, or more if ambitious.

What will class time be like?

A mixture of instruction and creating, with close access to instructional mentorship.

Will I need to work outside of class?

No, though students may use their afternoon studio time to produce more pieces.

Do I need experience to take this class?

No experience necessary.

What do I need to bring to class?

Bring a personal sketchbook for idea generation, if you’d like.  Work clothes and closed-toed shoes are required.  If you have long hair, keep it restrained behind your shoulders.
