This week-long course is part of our Summer Program, beginning on Sunday, June 21st and ending on Saturday, June 27th. Class takes place Monday morning through Friday morning, with additional programming on Sunday and Saturday.

This weaving course will offer students of all skill levels the opportunity to learn to weave or expand their weaving skills using floor looms.

Being in the presence of instructors Nancy Marsh and Suzanne Halvorson, who have more than a century of weaving and teaching experience between them, will offer a personalized weaving experience for each participant. Nancy and Suzanne’s desire to pass on their legacy to a new generation of weavers will make this a wholly unique experience. The focus will be on the weaving of projects using techniques that will match the skill level and interests of the participants. Students will be able to choose yarns and colors from the vast library of yarn available at the Guild. Beginners welcome.

The course is designed to introduce both beginning and intermediate weavers to weaving on a floor loom without fear. Our objective is to teach in a way that is broken down into small steps, focusing on design, winding warps, dressing the loom, and weaving.

What will class time be like?

Students will select their design from a variety of samples and color study options, learn about loom dressing and weaving techniques, and complete a project to take home by the end of the course.

Will I need to work outside of class?

Yes, working in the studio outside of class time is required to finish your project.

Do I need experience to take this class?

No, this course welcomes beginners and experienced weavers alike.

What do I need to bring to class?

Please bring a notebook and pen, and a tailor’s cloth tape measure. If you have your own four-shaft looms (floor or table, not rigid heddle) and related equipment, you are welcome to bring it. Please notify the Guild in advance if you plan to bring your personal loom.
