SSA Week 2 | Imago Dei: Icons on the Page

This 6-Day course is part of our annual Spring Sacred Arts (SSA) Program, beginning on Sunday, May 10th and ending on Friday, May 15th. Class takes place Monday morning through Thursday morning, with additional programming on Sunday and Friday.
Images of Christ and the saints have been used by the church since the early days of the catacombs as teaching tools for the illiterate, aids to prayer and meditation, and as a form of Lectio Divina. In this course, we will explore the meaning behind the images to aid our understanding of faith and prayer as we paint icons from medieval Byzantine manuscripts.
What creative modalities are used in this course?
Water color, tracing, drawing, and fine details in manuscript style.
Will I need to work outside of class?
You may choose to work on your projects outside of class hours but it is not necessary.
Do I need experience to take this class?
This class welcomes beginner and advanced artists alike.
What do I need to bring to class?
No additional materials necessary.

Elijah Turrell is a Liturgical Artist from Seattle, WA.
