Will I need to work outside of class?: Yes, participants wishing to create complex or ambitious projects should expect to spend additional time working outside of class.

Do I need experience to take this class?: No experience needed.

What do I need to bring to class?: Comfortable work clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. The studio has a limited number of aprons so if you have a personal apron we recommend that you bring it. CLOSED-TOE SHOES! You will be around sharp objects and heavy equipment. For your safety, we require closed-toe shoes. If you don’t have closed-toe shoes you will be asked to change or leave. Long hair must be tied or put up.

This program begins Sunday, June 22, and ends Saturday, June 28. The fees listed at right include lodging and all meals (except “Commuter”, which includes a Commuter Meal Plan).  An additional sliding scale Course Fee is required.  For more information on our pricing, see our Pricing page.


 

Each student receives 12 pounds of clay to start with and unlimited water. They will be taught  traditional hand building and forming techniques (using coils, slabs, pinching, etc.) to build at least two alive-feeling sculptural vessels suitable for a variety of uses. Students will practice and refine these techniques, thereby opening a world of possibilities with  this ancient and sublime material.

Each participant will have work space, access to tools, time for working clay. Near the end of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to finish their work in a glaze fire.
