Will I need to work outside of class?: I wouldn’t say it is necessary to work outside of class but students should expect to stay a little bit after the allotted time to either clean or expand upon their projects. The course is designed to allow for a more simple approach if working after hours is not appealing, but can also be taken to next steps if dedicated.

Do I need experience to take this class?: Beginner level is OK, but any amount of block printing experience is preferred.

What do I need to bring to class?: I would suggest folks to bring a sketchbook and drawing utensil for planning and inspirational brainstorming. NO opened toed shoes - safety hazard in studio. Comfortable shoes able to walk the grounds and stand for long periods of time. Apron is suggested (if not provided). I advise you to avoid clothing with straps, strings, large sleeves, or other flowy clothing as they can get caught in the press.

Minimum age of participant: 18

What kinds & quantities of projects can participants expect to create in this class?: Students should expect to leave the class with a minimum of 10 - 15 prints. We will participate in a print exchange with the class and students are encouraged to print extra of their own to keep. Students can also take their carved block home with them.

In this course we will combine traditional printmaking techniques with new ones! We will pull inspiration and printing materials from the grounds around us to create a collaborative piece that is directly connected to our Mother Earth.

The objective of this course is to connect with nature, inspire curiosity through print, and contribute to a collaborative exchange.
Students will be encouraged to walk about the Guild grounds to find organic materials to help assist in their printing. Walking in nature will also inspire imagery for final production.
While this course will be exploring a mixed technique of printing I hope to encourage students to further push the boundaries of printmaking and discover a new path within the vast library of tradition.
At the end of the course I hope to have everyone participate in a print exchange as well as print on one piece all together to create an offering to the Guild and the grounds it resides on as a thank you for its inspiration and hospitality.
