A Weekend at the Forge

Step into the world of fire and steel in this hands-on Introduction to Blacksmithing weekend workshop with Appalachian blacksmith artist Jamie Kelly. Designed for beginners and those looking to refine their skills, this class welcomes anyone interested in learning the ancient art of shaping metal.

Over the course of the weekend, students will learn fundamental blacksmithing techniques—heating, hammering, shaping, and tempering metal—to craft their own functional or ceremonial tools. Whether forging a knife from a railroad spike, sturdy camping stakes, or another creative project, participants will gain the confidence and skills to work with metal in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Jamie is committed to making blacksmithing accessible to all, creating a welcoming space where students can engage with the craft, build skills, and connect with tradition. Whether you’re picking up a hammer for the first time or looking to deepen your understanding, this workshop is an opportunity to forge something meaningful and set a new path forward.

No prior experience is necessary.
