Family Camp: Art for All!
With Nicki Lang, Shan Wang and Sarah Sprouse
August 6 - 9, 2023
This exploratory Family Camp is designed for all ages and all levels of art experience. Participants will have the opportunity to explore three different art processes: block printing, working with clay, and nature drawing.
Register your family for Grunewald Guild’s 2023 Family Camp! We welcome ages 5 and up to explore a variety of creative mediums with three spectacular teachers! All children must register and attend this camp with an adult, and all children under 12 must have an adult with them during classes and studio time.
This 3-night camp will give participants a chance to rotate through three different art classes, experiencing multiple artistic mediums through kid-friendly demonstrations and small projects.
With Nicki, participants will explore positive and negative space as we carve into speedy-carve medium to create a block you can bring home and print with again and again.
With Sarah, participants will explore collaborative art-making processes with nature and other participants. We will begin our time together with experimental drawing en plein air, will learn to incorporate natural elements into their drawings, all while learning to draw from a new perspective. Our time together will conclude with a group collaborative nature project.
With Shan, participants will make simple clay dishes such as saucers, small bowls, and plates. We will use slab building and impression of objects techniques. During the class, participants will choose a cookie cutter or shape for their dish, use it to cut a piece from a slab of clay, and decorate it with textures by carving, cutting, or pressing in found objects. Then the shapes will be molded into the form of a shallow bowl, plate, or saucer based on individual preference. After these dishes dry fully, participants will have the option to paint them.
There will also be ample time for families to enjoy the Guild’s campus, check out local hiking spots, go swimming in Lake Wenatchee, or walk into Plain for some ice cream.
