To draw something is to be aware of its most subtle details. This course approaches observational drawing by breaking down the process into distinct stages. With each step, our eyes and hands attune to one another in response to whatever we are focusing on. Using brain-friendly approaches, we will tap into our inherent capacity to see and then translate this through marks on paper, allowing for the filter of our perceptions and hands to yield our unique drawing signature.

Through a series of exercises and studies, we will explore approaches meant to develop visual awareness, eye to hand coordination, and facilitate a mental shift to our built in “drawing mode”. We will begin the week with exercises that build on each other. As the week progresses there be the opportunity and support to investigate any of these approaches further or devise a way to combine them

While this course is introductory by nature, it can serve beginners as well as those experienced with drawing who might enjoy a refresher.
