This class is an introduction to the practice of kiln-fused glass. Over the course of the week students will become familiar with handling and cutting flat glass, judging compatibility, design approaches, and the basics of writing a schedule and programing a kiln. In the studio we will try various techniques and temperatures to achieve different effects, and will explore slumping shallow forms to create bowls and plates. Students will learn about the tools, techniques, tips and tricks for making fused art, and will be given further resources to pursue this challenging craft.

The objective of this class is to give students with little or no prior knowledge of fused glass the basic information and techniques of the craft, so that they can leave with several pieces of glass art that they are happy with, but also with a good understanding of what does and doesn’t work in the studio, and what is safe or unsafe.
