Art History Lecture Series: Madonnas of Color
With Bro. Mickey McGrath
December 4 - 18, 2024
Hosted virtually on Wednesday evenings at 6pm PST.
In this quarterly lecture series Brother Mickey McGrath invites you to consider how themes of art, faith, community, and expression intersect through the celebration of Madonnas from many cultures and traditions.
Black Madonnas have been a source of devotion and inspiration since the earliest days of Christianity. In this short series Mickey will share many of the images he has created which reflect both the history and contemporary relevance of Madonnas of many colors and indigenous cultures. From Chartres Cathedral to Bangalore; from India to Mexico to South Dakota, we will explore the Madonnas of Color as symbols of birth, death, and rebirth in the mystical garden of life. We will conclude our time together with a Q+A. Sessions will be recorded for those registering from a different time zone.
